SEO is a waiting game

Search engine optimisation (SEO) will not bring immediate results, one expert has claimed.

Recent research by the Online Marketing and Media Show (OMMS) found that businesses are scrapping traditional banner advertising in favour of online marketing services and SEO.

However, many business executives place an unrealistic emphasis on immediate results from their seo agency.

Writing in Marketing Pilgrim, Kurt Krejny notes that quite often these expectations cannot be met in small time frames and require patience.

He notes that this is a particular problem with online reputation management (ORM).

Mr Krejny notes: "It takes time and effort, and the client must understand the process and potential outcomes.

"One of the main ideas to convey to clients is that overall efforts to help a client with ORM will result in enhanced overall online visibility."

But businesses are seeing the benefits.

Estimates from Trakur suggest that ORM and search engine reputation management spending could double in the US by 2010 to $200 million.

What Mr Krejny comments on is very true.

We have a small amount of customers who pay for SEO and then complain when they dont see the benefits a week later, but trying to explain to your average business owner that there are hundreds of other businesses in the same sector doing what you are and getting high rankings takes time just doesnt seem to register with them.

Yes it takes time and all must have to accept the fact.
