Companies interested in boosting their search engine optimisation (SEO) should learn to love Link Baiting.

The latest little-known craze to attract the attention of the SEO world allows you to capture traffic through interesting and fresh content, such as seo news, that catches the eye of internet bloggers and social bookmarking sites such as Digg and del.icio.us, new designworld reports.

As any search engine marketing stalwart will tell you, this method relies heavily on developing a word-of-mouth appeal that will get the link passed around various consumer groups and internet users.

According to the Search Engine Journal, the top Link Baiting techniques are "News, Contrary, Attack, Resource and Humour".

Another controversial method, outlined by blogger seoleaders, is to hire a company to help produce creative online marketing services and campaigns that will attract attention.

They explained: "Examples of this could range from cartoonists to designers to ad agencies.

"Getting them involved in your content creation will ensure your project gets promoted on the consultant's website, blog, column or newsletter, creating word-of-mouth."
