Keyword selection to improve search engine rankings should not be a guessing game, it has been suggested

According to WebWire, businesses need to find out exactly what users are typing into search engines.

The article notes that any effort to select keywords without the appropriate research is likely to do nothing for search engine optimisation (SEO) and is a waste of both "time and money".

It notes: "Knowing what your users are searching for around the world is vital to increasing targeted leads and turnover.

"Analysing your keywords is of paramount importance and you should engage people around you for their ideas on keywords, until you build up a complete picture of possible keywords."

Meanwhile, the Yahoo! Search Marketing blog has begun offering pay-per-click advertisers advice on how best to select keywords, reports ClickThrough.

According to the blog, firms should target those who are starting out online as much as those that know what they want to purchase.

Any tips on how to develop a keyword strategy?
