Businesses need to be aware of potential saboteurs that could disrupt their search engine rankings, it has been revealed.
Search Engine Roundtable reports that newly emerging technologies are raising concerns over competing companies' capabilities to sabotage their rival's websites.
This has the potential to undo any hard search engine optimisation (SEO) work and investment.
Commenting on the problem, blogger Receptional Andy remarks that sabotage can happen in a number of ways.
He wrote: "That can be by directly modifying the site (through legitimate mechanisms to do so, or by finding vulnerabilities and exploiting them) and by modifying or setting up external references to a site."
Commenting on Marketing Pilgrim, Kurt Krejny remarks that one way of combating negative comment is to introduce content management solutions.
He suggests that firms set up a blog that encourages positive feedback from customers and clients.
