New SEO tool from Google

Google has launched a new tool which it hopes will provide greater insight into search engine optimisation (SEO).

The search engine's new Google Insights for Search builds upon the success of the Google Trends tool first launched in June.

Working in a similar manner to Trends, Insights for Search allows users to gain a deeper understanding of search behaviour.

Users are able to filter search results when viewing search volumes, this means that a rule can be added to greater define searches.

Giving the word 'apple' as an example, Google explains how the new tool can be used to restrict results to its 'food and drink' category, avoiding the usual Apple computer-related results.

A statement from Google explains that the service "provides more flexibility and functionality for advertisers and marketers to understand search behaviour, and adds some cool new features like a world heat map to graphically display search volume and regional interest".

Will the new SEO tool help firms with online marketing?
