Misspelling search engine optimisation

A marketing and SEO consultant has been giving tips on search engine optimisation by using keywords.

Damon Segal writes on RealBusiness.co.uk that choosing the right keywords is vitally important - he gives the example of choosing the keyword "wall mounted wine rack", when "hanging wine rack" may be searched for much more often.

Another one is to make keywords as dense in the page as possible.

However, he gives some other, less obvious advice for keyword search engine optimisation.

"One good trick is optimising keywords for misspellings, too," he says.

"Common mistakes - for example, 'verucca' being Googled as 'verruca' - can generate traffic opportunities."

As it turns out, Mr Segal has actually got the spelling wrong here as 'verruca' is correct, not 'verucca', but perhaps we should move on from his unpleasant example.

While there could be some benefit to spelling mistakes for keywords - perhaps with American spellings like search engine optimization - is it really wise or professional to make a page look like it has been written by someone that can't spell?

Just thought I'd explain my syntax 'Common mistakes – for example, verucca being Googled as verruca – can generate great traffic opportunities.', I had meant that using the misspelling verucca in place of the correct spelling verruca can still generate traffic to your site. I shall attempt to be more specific in future. Glad you liked the article though.
