Keyword selection 'more than a calculated guess'

Selecting the right keywords to improve search engine rankings through search engine optimisation (SEO) is more than just a guessing game.

That is according to the author Search Engine Optimization for Dummies, Peter Kent.

Keywords are one of the central components for SEO because they provide the search engines with a reference point to rank websites according to user's searches for particular keywords or phrases.

Peter Kent of Peter Kent Consulting, suggests that businesses should select the most relevant keywords to use on their site by using a keyword analysis tool.

"You can guess what keywords are important, but some of the keywords that you might think are very important aren't," he told Mercury News.

Recent research by NPD showed that just under half of people use multiple keywords or a keyphrase in search engines.

However the research also showed that around 28 per cent of people used only one keyword in their search engine enquiries.

Will SEO experts be able to help with keyword selection?
