Blog for better search engine placement

Business-minded people who "live and die" by sales should make time for blogs, as beyond their "wishy-washy" uses they have one major advantage - better search engine placement.

That's the view of expert Rick Burnes, writing on his, erm, blog.

While the web seems full of blogs, with people reporting even the most banal parts of their lives, by cutting through the rubbish and creating a regularly updated, well-written blog search engine optimisation can be achieved, Burnes claims.

The other merits of blogging, community and conversation, are important he says, but they are difficult to measure, unlike getting better search engine placement.

He points out that his blog manages to increase website traffic to the business he works for (a search engine marketing company), driving three times as much traffic from Google as the traditional website.

"To purchase the same kind of traffic (and the leads that come with it) we'd have to pay Google millions," he writes.

"Think about that - our blog is giving us millions of dollars worth of free advertising and generating leads we can count."

But Burnes could be said to be a blogging expert - is it worth smaller, non-IT companies giving up their time to keep up blogs?
