Will Google reveal all its secrets?

Google is to become more open on its corporate blog to give advice, tips and information on search engine optimisation (SEO), it has been revealed.

The internet giant has until now remained very secretive about its search engine algorithms, which have puzzled web designers and businesses for more than a decade.

This gave rise to the entire SEO industry, in which seo agency stalwarts charge companies money to improve their web design and optimise their search engine performance.

But all that could be about to change.

Google's vice president of engineering, Udi Manber, has announced that the company intends to "tell you about new things, explain old things, give advice, spread news and engage in conversations".

He added: "But being completely secretive is not ideal, and this blog post is part of a renewed effort to open up a bit more than we have in the past."

However, whether this new move will actually make the search engine marketing company redundant or not remains to be seen.

I mean - just how much will Google be willing to reveal its secrets, and are Microsoft and Yahoo likely to follow suit?
