Businesses are missing a great opportunity to optimise for targeted website traffic from mobiles and the missed revenues are only going to get bigger.
That's according to a recent study from Omniture, which found that 71 per cent of companies do not measure how much mobile traffic their sites get, while 50 per cent don't know how many unique mobile users they deal with.
Neil Weston, Omniture general manager for EMEA, believes that by optimising web design for mobile users, a potentially lucrative income stream could be opened.
"Customer intelligence is vital in driving revenue but companies appear to be turning their backs on opportunities to better market to mobile audiences," he said.
"This intelligence from mobile traffic can be used to optimise website content for mobile users and fine tune mobile marketing efforts.
"These activities will help to keep visitors on the site longer, which can help to increase conversion rates."
But while bigger companies like Google can afford to invest in mobile online marketing, should smaller companies jump on board now or wait until more people are using mobile internet?
