Humorous blogging the key internet marketing strategy

Writing funny blogs isn't just a way of testing the waters before you ditch your day job and embark on a stand-up comic career - it might just be one of the best internet marketing strategies you can employ.

Figures from comScore show that 14.5 million Brits visited at least one blog in August - that's 41 per cent of the entire UK internet audience.

"[Blogs] live and breathe in real-time, helping quench media consumers' thirst for the most up-to-date breaking news, information, and analysis," said the company's managing director in Europe, Herve Le Jouan.

"It should not, therefore, be particularly surprising that they're increasingly displacing traditional media usage and carving out an ever-increasing slice of the online advertising pie."

But where's the humour, you might ask - well, the answer lies in the habits of the heaviest UK blog users.

This group - generally young and tech-savvy - were found to be 142 per cent more likely than the average user to visit a funny blog, "a testament perhaps to the sharp wit often associated with blogging", though not so often associated with comScore press releases, unfortunately.

So should blogs tend towards funny to take this online marketing opportunity?
